The Sudbury Community Food Pantry Helping Others in Need
We are very fortunate to live in a town where few of the residents go to bed or off to school and or work hungry. Others are not so fortunate. Since 1990 the pantry has been serving those who are less fortunate. The Sudbury Food pantry is one of a few OPEN Pantries in the state. That is we do not restrict those we help to Sudbury residents, who account for less than 15% of those we serve. We have clients from 12 towns and cities such as Worcester, Fitchburg, Marlborough, Waltham, and Hudson etc. The elementary school Food Pantry program plays a major role in helping the 65-70 Families a week we help. During the school year over 50% of what we distribute are items collected by the elementary Schools. Last Year the schools collected 33,928 items. The items collected by the schools provide a variety we do not get from The Greater Boston Food Bank, GBFB. You may have seen recent newspaper articles telling about how many food pantries are struggling to meet the needs of their clients. Less is available from the GBFB as many manufactures are donating less to the food banks and stores are keeping more of the dented cans and selling them at a discount rather than donating them to the food bank. The 75 workers at the food bank are all volunteers no one is paid. These volunteers stock the shelves; distribute the food pick up donations, and purchases, place orders for food and many other tasks.
Your continued support for the food pantry is very much appreciated. If you have any question please feel free to contact me.

A huge thanks to the Loring Community for an unbelievable response to our Turkey Donation request. Thanks to the generosity of so many, we raised over $500 in a very short time! We were able to supply the Sudbury Community Food Pantry with an additional 20 Turkeys this past week. So much was donated that the Food Pantry has asked that the balance of the money be used to donate hams & turkeys during the December Holidays!! Thanks so much for your kindness and willingness to help those less fortunate in our own community.
Thanks to the hard work and support of our community, last Friday's community wide collection of 6,280 items sets a new record and represents a 23% increase in donations over last year. The volunteers who manage the Sudbury Community Food Pantry, on behalf of the clients they serve, would like to thank the schools for their generosity and support. Happy Thanksgiving!
The Loring Students, led by the 5th graders, will be collecting donations to buy and donate Thanksgiving Turkeys to the Food Pantry. We are asking every student to bring in just $1 to help in this effort. A donation center has been set up in the main office so that anyone wishing to contribute can leave the donation there. Please help make Thanksgiving a wonderful holiday for as many families in our community as we can!

Sudbury Food Pantry will be featured On Chronicle this FRIDAY on WCVB Channel 5 at 7:30 p.m. Do your children bring food to Loring each month for Food Pantry, only to see it be collected and distributed without them really understanding what happens once it leaves their hands? Watch Chronicle to see a story about our own Sudbury Community Food Pantry, including an acknowledgment to all the volunteers including schools, scout troops, places of worship, and others who keep people in Sudbury and surrounding towns from going hungry.
If you would like to be added to our volunteer pool (a commitment of one time a month and you choose which months you want to help!), contact Ofelia Collins at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
